our children, and their new friends, in Cusco. Cusco, the ancient capital of the Inca empire, is one of the highest elevation
cities in the world (at over 11,000 feet) and was our Base during the 1st week of our 2 week trip. Peru was
probably the most difficult trip we have ever attempted with our children, and we have done many. 3 of the 4 adults on the
trip were former Peace Corps Volunteers, one an MD with experience working in refugee camps in Central Africa, all speaking
at least some Spanish... Yet despite the challenges (altitude sickness in Cusco and ravenous biting flies in the
Amazon basin) we all agree that this was the most magical, rewarding and wonderful trip we've taken. Largely because of the
wonderful Peruvian People, whom we found to be extremely honest, friendly, knowledgable and extremely welcoming

We spent two weeks in Peru, arriving after all night flights from Miami. Our base for the first week was Cusco, a city of
300,000 at 11,500 feet in altitude that was the historic capital of the Inca empire. The week we the there was week preceeding
the Inti Raymi or Winter Solstice festival; every day of the week featured another parade of people. These people really
like to parade; from morning straight through nighttime a seemingly endless procession of marchers filed through the ancient
streets
